How We Address Noise Complaints
We begin by assessing the complaint conditions, either in person or through the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) Complaint Investigation forms. We use this to confirm a project scope including cost and timing, and work with stakeholders to get agreement to move forward.
Monitoring and Measurement
We set up noise monitors, online monitors and a weather station at the project site and affected residence as appropriate. We’ll perform reconnaissance to identify other noise sources in the area before conducting detailed noise measurements on-site.
Using the data we’ve collected, we create a detailed noise model using advanced modeling software to assess the source of the noise and simulate noise control strategies. We validate and calibrate the noise model with the measured results.
We’ll issue a clear, easy-to-read report and a detailed noise mitigation plan if required and review with all stakeholders.
Noise Control Implementation
We work with operators to gather and evaluate competitive bids for noise control equipment, and support detailed design work by simulating real conditions.
Follow-up Compliance Check
Once all noise mitigation measures are implemented, we will assess compliance to ensure noise targets were achieved. This is often required for regulators to close noise complaint investigations.
